Seminar contentThis two-day workshop is designed for PhD candidates seeking to deepen their understanding of multilevel theorizing and data analysis in organizational research. It combines theoretical foundations with practical applications, with particular attention to intensive longitudinal and multi-respondent survey designs. Participants will learn how to conceptualize organizational phenomena across levels of analysis, develop theoretically grounded hypotheses, and align research designs and analytical strategies with the underlying theoretical assumptions. Through conceptual lectures, guided discussions, and hands-on exercises, the workshop integrates theoretical reasoning with the practical application of multilevel modeling techniques.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to develop multilevel research questions and hypotheses, evaluate the suitability of research designs and statistical models for hierarchical data structures, and apply and interpret multilevel models appropriately. They will also gain a deeper understanding of the assumptions and limitations of multilevel analyses and learn how to communicate their findings clearly and in accordance with scholarly standards.
CertificateDoctoral candidates from the Faculty of Business and Economics, TU Dresden can earn a certificate according to § 9 of the Ph.D. doctoral regulations (PromO 2018):

Doctoral candidates from other universities can earn a certificate as well.
AssignmentParticipants are required to complete a short multilevel data analysis assignment using a sample dataset provided during the workshop. They should apply the methods and concepts covered throughout the sessions to analyze and interpret the data and summarize their findings in a concise report (approx. 1–2 pages), to be prepared and submitted in the afternoon of the second workshop day.
RegistrationParticipation is limited (max. 15).
