| Workshop content |
This introductory workshop is directed at doctoral candidates and advanced master’s students who are planning or currently conducting a meta-analysis in economics. It is held in conjunction with the international annual colloquium of the Meta-Analysis of Economics Research (MAER) Network 2026, hosted at Chemnitz University of Technology, and participants are encouraged to attend the colloquium afterwards. Part 1 — Introduction to Meta-Analysis (online, 3 hours). You will get an introduction to the foundations of meta-analysis: what a meta-analysis is, how to formulate a research question, how to design a systematic literature search, and how to code studies and synthesize effect sizes. You will receive a first introduction to publication bias. Part 2 — Advanced Topics in Meta-Analysis Methods (on-site, full day). International experts will deepen the methodology in four sessions: a hands-on introduction to standard methods for detecting and correcting publication bias in R; a practical session on the Meta-Analysis Instrumental Variable Estimator (MAIVE) and current AI guidelines for meta-analyses; an overview of the state of meta-analytic research in economics and recent meta-science developments; and a practical introduction to Robust Bayesian Meta-Analysis (RoBMA) using R/JASP. |
