Supporting Empirical Research with Agentic AI

TU Dresden
DateOctober 07 & 08, 2026

Seminar content
  • You will get an introduction to the key ideas behind agentic AI: what distinguishes it from simple chatbots, how it can support important steps in research projects, and why this changes what is possible in our empirical research projects.
  • You will learn how to integrate agentic AI into the core stages of the empirical research workflow: from sharpening research questions and synthesizing literature, to managing data pipelines, writing, debugging, and replicating statistical code, and preparing manuscripts for submission.
  • We will do some hands-on work with specific agentic AI applications relevant to empirical researchers, including, for example, stress-testing early-stage research ideas; explaining and replicating empirical methods from published papers; collecting, transforming, and cleaning data; generating and auditing statistical code; and systematically checking manuscripts and code before submission.
  • We will also critically reflect on the role of AI in our research process and fields: where it creates benefits and risks, where it requires close human oversight, and how we can design workflows that keep us in control of the decisions that are core to our projects.
PreparationParticipants will need a laptop with a high-powered AI subscription and statistical software installed (optimally, Stata, R, and Python). As of today (February 2026), the smaller of the two Anthropic Claude Max Plans would be a good choice, but things can change quickly. Detailed setup instructions, including the specific tools and plans required, will be sent to registered participants.
CertificateDoctoral candidates from the Faculty of Business and Economics, TU Dresden can earn a certificate according to § 9 of the Ph.D. doctoral regulations (PromO 2018):
